Experience
I have been teaching over 15 years, working with students with varying skill levels and learning needs. My background is in English/English Lit. I attended San Diego University and obtained my BS degree and English teaching credential. I then taught language arts to middle school students. Following that, I moved to Sonoma County and received my master's degree in English lit. While attending grad school, I taught classes and worked with small groups teaching freshman composition and beginning writing. I also worked with students who needed assistance learning the English language. Additionally, I have experience with the following subjects: ESL/ELL, literature, study and organizational skills, reading, and writing. Furthermore, I spent time as an adviser and scorer for various written assessment tests, including local and state exams from elementary school through high school. I also performed these duties for college entrance/exit exams. I understand the sort of writing prompts that students are expected to know for these types of assessments. I believe that I am there to assist students to be active participants in their learning. I have various strategies to assist students through their assignments by listening and motivating, not just to lecture.When I am not working with students, I enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with family.
